So my binary was...Yes, more nuanced then I made it. So my binary was really 20 real friends and all those other relationships. :-)
Dean Kevinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10900463973040820047noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2306378782640780675.post-8984438126546384032021-10-18T12:48:37.782-07:002021-10-18T12:48:37.782-07:00That was supposed to be “people who were once frie...That was supposed to be “people who were once friends.”Malcolm+https://www.blogger.com/profile/08469936715413110334noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2306378782640780675.post-34949600220837534882021-10-18T12:47:55.478-07:002021-10-18T12:47:55.478-07:00I think there may be several more nuanced degrees ...I think there may be several more nuanced degrees of Facebook friendship between your 20 real friends and your 830 acquaintances. There are friends, people who were nice friends, people we know only online and rarely interact with, people we know online but interact with frequently. And all of those categories (well maybe not “only online and seldom interact”) can cover a range of personal intimacy.

A priest of my acquaintance once remarked that the only clerics colleague to phone him after the death of his father was one whom he had only ever known and interacted with online.

That said, I wouldn’t at all argue with your key point that my 1500 plus Facebook friends are not all friends in the same way. But it is more nuanced than a simple binary suggests.Malcolm+https://www.blogger.com/profile/08469936715413110334noreply@blogger.com
